Introduction:

Welcome to my humble abode on this webpage. I am Charles Liermann, the oathable, gregarious, nerd who set up Midgard/Backup server and got the grounds running for the the Mac server despite my loathing spitefulness of the operating system. Despite me not wanting to do the backup server or the macs, Chamberlain made me do it and I ended up loving it! I joined this class my sophomore year and hated every bit of it because I already knew everything to know in the first year class. Junior year I was caught up in the transition of "Project Ragnarok" and help with the layout of the vm's. My senior year as said before I was in charge of setting up the backup server and the mac server and ended up learning a ton about networking and realizing there is more to computers than I could even comprehend.

Plans for the Unforeseen Future:

I am going to be headed off to the Air Force Academy Prep School for one year and once I pass that I'll be going to the actual academy to be studying Cyber Security Sciences. I am also planning on building a gargantuan crypto mining empire to generate stupid amounts of money!!! And then once I retire from the Air Force as an officer I'll go work in the private industry for more money!

Review of USAFA Prep BMT (Basic Military Training)

Overall I'd have to say that Lt. Colonel Kirksey didn't yell at me enough to prepare me for the 3 weeks of BMT I endured. It absolutely SUCKED, BMT is supposed to break you down but I went into BMT already knowing just about everything! Still, they yelled at me and told me I was wrong even though I did my best to do everything I already knew how to do from the last 4 years of A.F.J.R.O.T.C. their words still got to me. Towards the last week of BMT things were a lot better cadre (the people who yelled at me) finally chilled out and were more like homies. And our squadron, Alpha Squadron, won "Top Squadron of BMT" award! Overall, still a crappy experience that I'm not exactly looking forward to for next year which I'm now in!

(Update, this was actually my best year at the academy)

Review of USAFA Year 1 & 2

Overall, "the real world", as I've been told, is NOT fun...Granted most aren't going to have a similar Freshman year to what I had. With military training and upperclassmen actively watching your every move and punishing you for having your shoelaces on wrong, having your name tag off by half a centimeter, even just for "walking the wrong way", it was definitely difficult being told "you guys can't even do simple things right (when in fact we were). I was in Cadet Squadron 11, Rebeleven, which is typically ran by an Army Officer...so he approved whatever training the upperclassmen wanted to see us struggle through. One of the few upsides that year was that I got onto the travel team of the competition cyber team, and got to get out of a LOT of trainings so I didn't have to suffer more on top of what I already had to do every morning... I got to compete in 2 national competitions (while not winning any defiantly prepared us for the next year). Overall, Freshman year REALLY wasn't really all that good of a freshman year but I go through it. Spanish class was my hardest class (I know, someone being from AZ not knowing Spanish, wild).

Over the summer I did get to do this cool thing called CST (Combat Survival Training). I was dropped out in the middle of a desert with a group of people with little food. We learned how to live off the land out there which was very cool to learn. Our instructor had us write poems, and if they were good enough he gave us a gummy worm. One of the best lines from my poems was "Airman Adams, makes me squirm, all just for a gummy worm", I ended up getting the worm. It was also freezing every single night, and rained 3 out of the 5 nights, and instead of getting out my sleeping bag (because I was too lazy, also probably not in the right state of mind) I just laid on the ground in my cold wet clothes and froze. I slept in a porta-potty one night because it was raining so hard, it was also freezing. Overall, I would totally do it again. It was a very fun experience, and I loved the hiking in the wilderness and just living out there. Some people, not in our group, got really...moody...but our group was fun to be with!

Sophomore year, has been a LOT better, so far. I am now in Cadet Squadron 26, Barons, and it has been a lot better this year. It was a rough start, but once the ball got rolling and I started talking to a lot of people in squad things got better. My hardest class this year has been physics, so far. I am the Color Bearer and cyber training staff this year, with more to come!
